Two hundred kilometres of infrastructure for an investment of $81 million: this is the scale of Terna’s project in Uruguay. These are record numbers for a 500-kV transmission line that will connect the cities of Melo and Tacuarembó and provide access to renewable sources for thousands of people.
The works, which involve 3 power lines (213 km of 500-kV HVTL and 1.5 km of 150-kV from Melo to Tacuarembó plus 9 km of 150-kV HVTL from Tacuarembó to the existing Bonete-Tacuarembó line) aim to strengthen and increase clean energy production, as well as ensuring the safety and security of Uruguay’s national grid.
For years now, Terna’s technical experience has supported energy companies in developing countries, with particular focus on Latin America. Over the years, the South American electricity sector has undergone a profound transformation, making it a rapidly expanding market. Already present in Brazil and Peru, in South America, the Italian transmission grid operator represents a reference point not only for its technological know-how, but above all for its focus on sustainability and renewable sources.
